The United Nations Organisation (UNO) is a global organization that was founded in 1945 after the Second World War. Its primary purpose is to promote international co-operation and prevent future conflict. The UNO has 193 member states, and its work is based on the principle of collective responsibility. This means that all member states are responsible for the actions of the organization as a whole. The UNO works in a variety of different areas, including human rights, peace-keeping, development, and humanitarian relief. In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at the history and work of the United Nations Organisation.
What is UNO called?
The UNO is called ‘United Nations Organisation’ (or ‘the UN’) as the name suggests. It’s also sometimes referred to as the United Nations or as UN, but these terms can be used to refer to instances such as: * UN departments and agencies; * The United Nations Security Council; * Any other international organization that uses ‘United Nations’ or ‘UN’ in its name.
History of the UNO: 1945-1949
In 1945, representatives from 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference on International Organisation to draw up a Charter for a new international organization that would replace the League of Nations. The Charter was signed on 26 June 1945 and came into force on 24 October 1945. The UN officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, after its ratification by the five permanent members of the Security Council and a majority of other signatories.

The main organs of the UNO are: * The General Assembly, which coordinates and discusses all matters related to the organization’s goals. It only makes recommendations, however, and has no power to pass binding resolutions. * The Security Council, which can make legally-binding decisions if any of its 15 members approve a resolution with a majority vote. * The Economic and Social Council, which coordinates the UNO’s work in social, economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields. * The Trusteeship Council is currently inactive. * The Secretariat is headed by a Secretary-General who maintains international peace and security. * The International Court of Justice settles legal disputes between member states.
What are the main organizations of the UN?
Over the years, the UN has found several subsidiary organizations to help achieve its goals. Some of these are: * The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) – Provides food and healthcare for children in developing countries * The World Health Organization (WHO) – aims to improve levels of health worldwide by identifying and eradicating threats such as malaria and cholera. * The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – Promotes peaceful use of nuclear energy by verifying that countries stick to their treaty obligations * The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) – works to coordinate international cooperation in education, science, culture, and communication.
